I learn as much about how Spirit works from working with you as a client as I do my own Guides and studies of philosophy and anthropology. I hear you – you want to be a realized version of your highest and finest self. Often, this starts with the earnest hope to rid negativity from your life. But, what does it mean to clear negativity?
Before I can answer that question, there is another – Why do you want to clear negativity? Or, why do you feel like you need to clear negativity? Our perceptions of our problems are just as important as the problem itself. I invite you to pause your reading to jot down a few ideas about your intentions about how to handle negativity.
Okay, now I want to share a short story about negativity. There once was a farmer whose horse ran away. That evening the neighbors gathered to commiserate with him since this was such a negative experience. He said, “May be.” The next day the horse returned, but brought with it six wild horses, and the neighbors came exclaiming at his good fortune and positive turn of events. He said, “May be.” And then, the following day, his son tried to saddle and ride one of the wild horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. Again the neighbors came to offer their sympathy for the misfortune. He said, “May be.” The day after that, conscription officers came to the village to seize young men for the army, but because of the broken leg the farmer’s son was rejected. When the neighbors came in to say how fortunately everything had turned out, he said, “May be.”
Simply put: our conceptions of what is positive or negative are incomplete. We just don’t know all possible influences and outcomes of our choices and the mired web of cause and effect.
I bet your answer to clearing negativity is fear-based, pragmatic and utilitarian. You probably think there is very good, obvious reason to want to surround yourself with positivity and not negativity. These reasons create a false dichotomy: negativity is the distinct polar opposite of health and happiness.
Shamanic spirituality truly transformed how I experience life by offering me an alternative to wanting to be good and do good. My “problems” became non-problems. I now see the paradox – the intrinsic oneness that links All. In these mirrored pathways, new insight emerges. Life is a give and take, an on-going flow in both directions with many degrees and differences within umbrella terms like negativity and positivity. Spiritual healing, in particular, is not aimed to eliminate symptoms or remedy negativity. As a client, you may have noticed I don’t spend much time diagnosing the problems of how you got to present circumstances. Spiritual healing is surrender, acceptance and resilience. It is so empowering to witness these deeper shifts happen during ceremony. It’s palpable as the energy patterns become clearer and malleable to the healing intentions.
So what can we do with the impulse to avoid pain, and rid ourselves of negativity? First, I honor the path of limitation that bought me to the precipice of change. Wanting to clear negativity, even if it doesn’t totally capture the essence of the healing, is as good a place to start as any. Then, I choose to engage with my spiritual practices, focusing on cultivating alignment with spiritual values, exploring ways to support the journey with self-care, and of course, healing. Guided by spirit, I explore the relationships without a ledger of + / – alone. The professional services I offer honor the ongoing process of change – letting go and manifesting – a cycle of rebirth. The goal evolves from clearing negativity to actively shifting consciousness, cultivating faith, meaningful self-reflection and holistic manifestation of healing. The negativity as it first presents itself may not ever change – that co-worker may still doing that annoying thing, your leg may still be broken. Shamanic healing is catalyst for the personal transformation that changes your relationship to the perception of the symptomatic occurrence of negativity across body, mind, emotion and spirit on all levels.
